Al-Asr Media & Marketing Internship

At Imam Al-Asr Masjid, we strive to support, unite, and strengthen the Muslim community and the community at large within the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. As such, it is important that we develop an effective voice to promote our center, its projects, and the message of Prophet Muhammad and his progeny; peace be upon them all.


The Media & Marketing Internship gives students the opportunity to learn increasingly crucial media development and marketing skills through action. Students will split their time between learning skills and telling the story of Imam Al-Asr Masjid as media and marketing professionals. All interns will walk away with applied experience in the fields mentioned below, but will also tailor their own experiences to match their goals and interests.

Time commitment


Interns must recognize that this internship requires the same effort as a part time job and set aside approximately 10 hours per week for this endeavor. They must join weekly remote instruction and review every Wednesday from 7 – 8 p.m. and will be given assignments, including attending in-person events, as necessary.

Compensation

This is an unpaid internship that compensates students through instruction and mentorship from
media and marketing professionals. We will be happy to sign off on student service learning
hours for high school students or college credit for undergraduate students if it fits their program
requirements. In addition, mentors will help interns develop a portfolio of work and interns may
request letters of recommendation for future opportunities.


Internship Period


The internship will run for 6 months from June, 2024 to November, 2024


Qualifications

Applicants must be high school seniors or college students and reside within driving distance of
Imam Al-Asr Masjid (5501 Cherokee Ave, Alexandria, VA 22312) throughout the duration of the
internship.

Application Process

Students must submit the following materials to be considered for this internship:

  1. A resume detailing any past work, extracurricular activities, and skills that may be relevant to this internship.
    a. Be sure to include your full name, email address, phone number, and level of education in your resume.
  2. One to three samples of content the applicant has created. These could be photos, videos, writing samples, audio productions, or other media. Professional work, schoolwork, and media created as a hobby are all acceptable.
  3. A cover letter that:
    a. explains how the applicant’s experience, as detailed in the resume provided, will help the applicant support Imam Al-Asr’s media and marketing efforts.
    b. discusses how the applicant plans to use the skills learned through this internship in the future.
    c. provides an analysis of the content samples provided, including their objective and how the applicant thought through its development.
